Among the most popular tests in the world, along with Cambridge ENGLISH exam range, are such tests as TOEFL iBT (Test of English as Foreign Language Internet-based Test) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

You can get prepared for these tests at our Center; the services in this area are provided by the Grade Education Center that has proven itself as a leader in preparation for TOEFL and IELTS.

TOEFL iBT

TOEFL® (Test of English as a Foreign Language) — is a standardized test of English language, which is compulsory for non-English speaking foreigners for admission to universities in the US and Canada.

The test results are also acknowledged in a number of other English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries for admission to institutions with English language teaching. In addition, the test results can be claimed when recruiting in foreign companies. The test results are stored in the company database for 2 years and then removed.

This test is first introduced in 1964. Since then, more than 20 million people have passed this test.

Usually the test lasts for about 3 hours; iBT test version lasts for no more than 4.5 hours.

The test consists of four sections, each of which tests one of the basic language skills (while some tasks require integrating multiple skills) and all tasks focus on language used in an academic environment, and higher education. The test cannot be held more than once a week. TOEFL iBT is the next order of execution:

Assessment

To get an assessment, you need to perform one task in each section: Reading, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. As for the iBT variant, here each of the four sections is measured as 30 points, which gives a total of 120.

Worldwide acknowledgement

TOEFL is recognized in more than 6,000 higher education institutions in 130 countries, being the most common test for English proficiency. The TOEFL certificate is valid for two years. Some universities require that the test is passed no more than 18 months ago.

IELTS

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an International English Language Testing System used to determine proficiency of those who intend to emigrate, study or practice in an English speaking environment, as well as to determine the level of English proficiency of people for whom English is not their native language.

IELTS is managed by Cambridge English, the British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia. The IELTS test may be necessary for those who are going to apply for immigration to the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, travel to study in the Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, US, British and Irish universities. The number of schools in the world that recognize IELTS test results is constantly increasing.

There two types of this test:

  • Academic, designed for people who want to pursue higher education in the schools, where English is teaching language
  • General Training,
    designed for people
    who plan to immigrate
    to the above-mentioned
    English-speaking countries.

The specific of the Academic test is an increased level of complexity for reading (Reading section) and writing (Writing section) as compared to the same tests in General Training.

IELTS test results are valid for two years from the date of receipt.

Test structure and duration

  • Listening

  • 40 minutes, including 30 minutes of listening, plus 10 minutes give answers in the form
  • 1. dialogues on everyday topic
    2. monologue on a given topic
  • Reading

  • 60 minutes
  • You must answer the questions on the texts (usually there are 3 questions)
  • Writing

  • 60 minutes
  • Task One. Academic: Describe in 150 words or chart table. Total: Write a letter Task Two. An essay of 250 words on the topic specified in the task.
  • Speaking

  • 11 to 14 minutes
  • In this module, the candidate is interviewed by the examiner alone. In the event of an appeal the interview may be recorded.

Test duration for Listening, Reading and Writing is about 2 hours and 45 minutes. These three modules are always in the order specified and without interruption. Speaking may be tested separately, with an interval of 7 days before or after the other modules.

Assessment

IELTS results are assessed using the 9-point scale which covers all possible levels of English propagation. The assessment may be rounded up to half of the points.

  • Modest User
  • Limited command of the language, as a whole demonstrates an understanding of most situations, although it makes a lot of mistakes. Capable of basic communication.
  • 4.0
  • Limited User
  • Basic knowledge of the language is limited to standard situations. The person often has problems with complex language constructions.
  • 3.0
  • Extremely Limited User
  • The person demonstrates only rough understanding of standard situations.
  • 2.0
  • Intermittent User
  • In reality, communication is not possible, only the most common situations using individual words and short sentences.

Tuition fee, IELTS testing in Kyiv is UAH 3500 (Students International) и UAH 3500 (British Council).
